A second postcard from Nifty Rabbit ;)

Bird of Paradise flower
17 Apr 2015 | From 'Nifty Rabbit' of Singapore
OFFICIAL POSTCROSSING

As soon as I received this official Postcrossing postcard, I immediately tried to register it. To my surprise, the postcard registration failed - and I tried a couple more times again. Same results: You've already registered this postcard! I checked my recieved postcards wall, and indeed I saw a postcard from Singapore with the same postcard ID. Initially I thought that the sender might have written the wrong postcard code. But as I went through my received postcards, I've realized that the handwriting in the registered postcard and this one is the same. 'Nifty Rabbit' sent me another card (and I received it a week after the firts one). He did not sign the second one though - and I still don't know his name.

About the postcard, it shows an illutration of the plant 'Bird of Paradise'. It is named so because of the resemblance of its flowers to birds-of-paradise. Bird of paradise is a popular houseplant, or garden addition in warmer climates, producing beautiful flowers reminiscent of flying birds.

The artwork is also from the heART's 5th Anniversary Exhibition with the theme "Journey. Arts". It is titled 'Life is beautiful but..'. The artist added that 'The distinctivenes and vibrancy of this Bird of Paradise flower symbolizes joy, freedom, and hope during my recovery to good health. Life is beautiful but it is never perfect. Just learn to accept and go around them.'

Art from the heart

Fond Memories
10 Apr 2015 | From 'Nifty Rabbit' of Singapore
OFFICIAL POSTCROSSING

This painting was done in memory of the artist's dear Irish friend, Mary Landy. It is one of the several artworks shown during the heART's 5th Anniversary Exhibition with the theme "Journey. Arts".

This art-making support group for cancer survivors receiving treatment at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital was started in October 2009 by the Department of Psychological Medicine. In a supportive and non-threatening environment, the participants are able to enjoy and benefit from the therapeutic process of art-making. Many of the participants have no previous art background and have since discovered their passion and talent for art.

heART has organised many art-making activities including art exhibitions, community art projects, decorating the wards with patients’ paintings and printing the paintings into calendars.

The programme is under KKheART, set up in 2012 under the Department of Psychological Medicine with the aim of enhancing the holistic care for our patients.

The Singapore Skyline

Overlooking Singapore at night
16 Dec 2014 | From Jonathan of Singapore
OFFICIAL POSTCROSSING

This is my second postcard which features the Singapore Flyer - the world's largest giant observation wheel at 165 meters above the city. It is the height of a 42-storey building and at least 30 metres taller than the famed London Eye.

The Singapore Flyer is the only place to see the breathtaking sights of the country's magnificent cityscape. As the wheel turns, you’ll be treated to a visual 360° feast of iconic and historical landmarks and views from the Marina Bay to the Singapore River, Raffles Place, Merlion Park, Empress Place and the Padang. There is no other place in Singapore that offers these breathtaking, magnificent day and glittering night views.

Singapore, South East Asia's most dynamic city, is rich in contrast and color where you’ll find a harmonious blend of culture, cuisine, arts and architecture. Singapore has grown into a thriving centre of commerce and industry.

The Merlion

Merlion Park in Singapore
3 Dec 2014 | From Alena of Singapore
OFFICIAL POSTCROSSING

The Merlion, Singa-Laut in Malay, is a traditional creature in western heraldry that depicts a creature with a lion head and a body of a fish. In Singapore, it has become a marketing icon used as a mascot and national personification of Singapore. Merlions do not feature in any local folklore or myths of Singapore, and was only used in Singapore initially as the logo for the tourism board.

This mythical half-fish and half-lion resides at the waterfront Merlion Park. The body symbolises Singapore's humble beginnings as a fishing village when it was called Temasek, meaning 'sea town' in Old Javanese. Its head represents Singapore’s original name, Singapura, or ‘lion city’ in Malay.
This icon is a ‘must-see’ for tourists visiting Singapore, similar to other significant landmarks around the world. Built by local craftsman Lim Nang Seng, it was unveiled on 15 September 1972 by then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew at the mouth of the Singapore River, to welcome all visitors to Singapore.

The Husband Store
1 Jul, 2013 | From Joy of Singapore

PLEASE NOTE:
To avoid gender bias charges, the store's owner opened a New Wives store just across the street.

The first floor has wives that love sex.
The second floor has wives that love sex and have money.
The third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors have never been visited.

My first postcard from Singapore

Marina Bay Sands
4 Feb, 2013 | From Ashlyn
OFFICIAL POSTCROSSING

I've been to Singapore last February 2012. I wasn't still interested in postcards back then so I bought no postcard as souvenir. Luckily I got this one from Ashlyn.

This is Marina Bay Sands at Bayfront Avenue, Singapore. Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort fronting Marina Bay in Singapore. It is billed as the world's most expensive stand-alone casino property.
