An M.K. Čiurlionis art

Lightning. 1909
3 Dec 2014 | From Alena of Russia
OFFICIAL POSTCROSSING

Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (22 September 1875 - 10 April 1911) was a Lithuanian painter, composer and writer. Čiurlionis contributed to symbolism and art nouveau and was representative of the fin de siècle epoch. He has been considered one of the pioneers of abstract art in Europe. The majority of his paintings are housed in the M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum in Kaunas, Lithuania. His works have had a profound influence on modern Lithuanian culture. The asteroid 2420 Čiurlionis is named after him.

He lived only to the age of 36, but like Vincent van Gogh, with whom he has many parallels, he accomplished a prodigious amount in his tragically short lifetime. No less than 300 musical compositions and an equal number of paintings have been attributed to him.

A sweet treat

Milk and cupcakes
4 Oct 2014 | From Guste of Lithuania
OFFICIAL POSTCROSSING

Guste sent the postcard in an envelope and she managed to completely fill up the postcards with greetings and stories to share - her new job as a sophomore teacher, the last movie she saw (Good Will Hunting), books she's reading, the music she listens to, and the summer season in her country. She wrote her lovely messages as if writing to an old close friend. It was warm, friendly, and sincere. It was conversational that I also enjoyed giving my reply when I registered the postcard. It was a fun read - in a postcard-letter perspective :)

She added that she chose this postcard because she just couldn't resist such delicious food. It would be nice to have some milk and cupcakes while reading a long letter or having conversations with some dear friends :) Hmm but I prefer spicy food though - hahaha!

Wave-washed Lighthouse

Wave-washed Lighthouse
15 Apr, 2014 | From Aukse of Lithuania
POSTCROSSING Friend

I actually have no knowledge about this particular lighthouse. I'm not even sure if this is from Lithuania, or if it actually does exist. I've tried searching the internet but it was in vain. My search lead me to Galeria Cytryna though.

Nonetheless, I love how the photo was taken (or done). It feels dramatic, dark, and moody.

Swap from Lithuania

Sunday Morning
27 Feb, 2014 | From Aukse of Lithuania
POSTCROSSING SWAP

Aukse fell in love with one of my sent postcards, a portrait of a Maranao girl, and asked me for a swap. Luckily, I still have a copy of it.

The postcard she sent me is a photograph of Egle Zioma from deviantart. It reminded me of my deviantart page which I haven't visited for a very long time now. Oh, and she wrote/asked if we could continue sending each other postcards...

My first postcard from Lithuania

Cala Figuera, Alexander Soroikin
25 Oct, 2013 | From Zymantas of Lithuania
OFFICIAL POSTCROSSING

Cala Figuera is a district of Santanyí on the island of Majorca, in the Balearic Islands of Spain, around 60km to the south east of Palma.

The town of Cala Figuera stretches from high cliffs to the south of the town to the fishing harbour at the end of a Fjord-like inlet which holds some of the most picturesque traditional buildings in the whole of Majorca, as well as a number of millionaires' mansions overlooking the scenic harbour entrance.

Cala Figuera offers no tourist beaches or easily accessible swimming areas, as a result of which it remains largely untouched by mass tourism.
