Happy Mailbox: 3 February 2015

Postcards received 3 Feb, 2015

It is already February and I am still finding some Christmas cards in my mailbox. Shouldn't I be receiving Valentine cards by now? Hahaha, not that I'm expecting one. Postal service can be tricky and unpredictable at times.

But I did receive a cute Chinese New Year greeting card from a friend in Hong Kong along with a letter and postcard. My country list is also up by a notch with my first postcards from Paraguay and Zimbabwe.

Got three official postcards from Belarus, Japan, and Russia. And a couple more from my penfriends in Malaysia, Romania, Russia, and Ukraine.

Got some postcards from China, Germany, Taiwan, and UK. The ones from China and Taiwan are postcards from the official Postcrossing track. And a postcrosser from Germany sent me 3 postcards in an envelope through swap. I also received a thank-you card from UK. I have to admit it took me quite a while to figure out whom the postcard was from. I have to re-track my e-mails and Postcrossing messages :p

Memories of South Korea

Trinkets from South Korea
11 Dec 2014 | From Akubi of Hong Kong
POSTCROSSING FRIEND

Postcards, stickers, a flag, letters, leaves, and other souvenirs - these were some of the surprises in the parcel Akubi sent me. They were from his trip to South Korea last autumn of 2014. The autumn months of Korea are September~November, and this is the most ideal time to visit the country. During this time, the country experiences warm, sunny weather, skies that are cobalt blue and spectacular foliage that is perhaps the biggest draw. Akubi even sent me two leaves for me to see the beautiful autumn colors of Korea.

The postcard enclosed is of the Seoul Tower -  a communication and observation tower which marks the highest point in Seoul. It is a 3D postcard that shows two views of the iconic tower. There were also a flag of South Korea, colorful post-its, stickers featuring the Seoul Tower, and a traditional Korean cloth badge. Along with all these is also a Christmas card which contains all his happy wishes and thanks for this year and the next :)

Happy Mailbox: 3 December 2014

Postcards received 3 Dec, 2014

First batch of postcards received this month. And they came all the way from Germany, Netherlands, Poland (2), Russia (2), Singapore, Switzerland, and Ukraine (2). 5 were official Postcrossing postcards, and I've got the other half from my penfriends. I've realized that all are from Europe except the one from Singapore. Postcrossing is indeed more famous in the European countries :)

Happy Mailbox: 24 November 2014

Postcards received 24 Nov, 2014

Suddenly Monday appears again - start of another week-long of stressful, busy, and possibly boring days at the office and at home. Feels like I have no life. Monday is always so hated. What an attitude to start the week with! I suppose I should be more optimistic of my days ahead. But as they say, 'optimism is just a mania for insisting that all is well when things are going badly'.

But here's something to be happy about (well at least for me): I received a bunch of postcards today from 5 different continents, that is Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. Finally have postcards from Ethiopia, a country in the Eastern Africa. Postcards from Africa are especially rare so I was happy to have received a couple of them from Ethiopia. Andreas, a friend from Germany, sent me another postcard from South Africa.

Completing the list of today's mail delivery are postcards from Belarus, Finland (2), Germany, Greece, Italy (3), Netherlands, Peru, Russia (2), South Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine, UK, and USA (3).

Happy Mailbox: 7 November 2014

Postcards received 7 Nov, 2014

Technically, these are the first postcards that I have received for the month of November. It just so happened that I claimed the package from Costa Rica 3rd of November, but the claim slip arrived last October. Yes, in our country whenever you have an international package, it will be delivered to the Phil Post and not straight to you. It has to be checked by the Philippine Customs first. Then the central post office will mail you a notice that you can now claim your item/s. You will even be charged a postal fee that is indicated on the notice that was sent to you via mail :|

Oh, anyway... among these postcards are my first ones from Iran, Kyrgyzstan, and Panama :) Hurray for new countries in my list! Also received a bunch of equally beautiful postcards from postcrossers and friends in Australia, Finland, Hong Kong, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, and USA.

A parcel from Costa Rica

Of photographs and artist's manifesto
3 Nov 2014 | From Paola of Costa Rica
POSTCROSSING FRIEND

This parcel traveled all the way from Costa Rica to Japan before reaching my mailbox. Inside were a smorgasboard of surprises: letters, poems, postcards, photographs, and a bookmark.

The photographs were all taken in San Jose, the capital and largest city of Costa Rica, using her analog camera. She quips that it made her excited taking all these pictures as it made her more aware of her surroundings and because of the anticipation of how the pictures will come about. She also wrote the stories behind each photograph - from moments of her daily life and scenes she encounters day to day or randomly to the beauty and colours of San Jose. A lovely bookmark from San Jose is also enclosed, as well as two other photographs from her dear friend, Fabian.

Paola also wrote about the 'Artist's Lufe Manifesto' by Marina Abramovic, is a Serbian and Former Yugoslavian artist based in New York. It talks of an artist’s conduct in his life; an artist’s relation to his love life; an artist’s relation to the erotic; an artist’s relation to suffering; an artist’s relation to depression; an artist’s relation to suicide; an artist’s relation to inspiration; an artist’s relation to self-control; an artist’s relation with transparency; an artist’s relation to symbols; artist’s relation to silence; an artist’s relation to solitude; an artist’s conduct in relation to work; an artist’s possessions; a list of an artist’s friends; a list of an artist’s enemies; different death scenarios; and different funeral scenarios.
