The postcard set is from Milan (9-postcard set). Rogerio visited Milan some years ago. He told me some of his friends are not fond of Milan, but he stressed that it is actually a nice place to visit.

Along with the postcards is a Brazilian 5-Reais banknote.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Leblon and Ipanema Beaches
21 Nov 2013 | From Rogério of Brazil

The postcard shows Leblon, which to Rogério's opinion is the best beach in Rio de Janeiro and one of the best in Brazil. You can always find a good spot to lay down, and the sand is very clean and soft.

Leblon is the most affluent neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Neighboring Ipanema is regarded as the second most affluent area in Rio de Janeiro. It is also the name of the local beach. The neighborhood is located in the south zone of the city, between Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Morro Dois Irmãos and the Jardim de Alá channel, bordering the Gávea, Ipanema, Lagoa and Vidigal neighborhoods. It is regarded as having the most expensive price per residential square meter in Latin America

Leblon is similar to Ipanema but even more exclusive, being the home of rich and famous people. The beach is quieter and more relaxed than the hip and trendy beach of Ipanema.

About the stamp, Rogério shared that it is called "Olho de Boi", or Bull's eye. It is a replica of the first stamp ever to be produced in Brazil in 1843. There are three denominations for the stamps: 30, 60, and 90 Reis. A pack of stamps with all three denominations would amount to $770,000.00.

Despite having a Renaissance-styled dome, the São Paulo Metropolitan Cathedral is considered by some to be the 4th largest neo-gothic cathedral in the world.

Meaning behind the name

Big Waters

The name "Iguazu" comes from the Guarani or Tupi words "y", meaning "water", and "ûasú", meaning "big". Legend has it that a god planned to marry a beautiful woman named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. In rage, the god sliced the river, creating the waterfalls and condemning the lovers to an eternal fall.
