Antwerpen, Belgium

Grand Square and Cathedral
26 Aug 2014 | From Mieke of Belgium
OFFICIAL POSTCROSSING

Antwerp, or Antwerpen in Dutch, is a city and municipality in Belgium and the capital of the Antwerp province of Belgium. It is Belgium’s second city and biggest port. The city retains an intriguing medieval heart with café-filled cobbled lanes, a riverside fortress and a truly impressive cathedral. Today Antwerp’s top drawcards are its vibrant fashion, entertainment scene and startling architectural and cultural contrasts.

The Cathedral of Our Lady with statue of Brabo in front on Grand Market Square is the tallest building in Antwerp. The gothic Cathedral of Our Lady was started in 1352 with the first stage of construction ending in 1521. The cathedral houses some impressive huge paintings by P.P. Rubens, and is on the list of Unesco World Heritage sites.

Coca-Cola has always relied in advertising to promote and market their brand, and this is why they are always on top of their game, after having been in the market for more than a century. Coca-Cola advertising during the early 1900′s relied on young women as their spokespersons. The first spokesperson of Coca Cola is model Hilda Clark.

It is one of the most important industrial cities in Flanders, located on the Albert Canal, between Antwerp and Liège.

Winterslag is a district of Genk in Belgian Limburg. It is especially known for its coal-past and the remains of it. The street in the postcard is from Cité, and shows houses built beginning of the 20th century from mine workers.
