OFFICIAL POSTCROSSING
The rock-garden 'Toranoko Watashi' is the most beautiful stone garden in Kyoto. Soami (?~1525), who created it, expresses his understanding of Zen enlightenment with simplicity.
Nanzenji is one of the most important Zen temples in Japan as it is ranked as above the five greatest Zen temples in Kyoto. It was first built as an imperial villa in 1264. The gardens in the compound are also must-sees, especially the well-known dry-landscape garden in O-hojo which is called “Toranoko watashi” (young tigers crossing the water).
