Tajikistan, or officially Republic of Tajikistan, is a mountainous landlocked country in Central Asia. Mountains cover more than 90% of the country. Tajikistan means the "Land of the Tajiks". Most of Tajikistan's people belong to the Tajik ethnic group, who speak Tajik, a dialect of Modern Persian, although many people also speak Russian. The suffix -stan is Persian for "place of"or "country" and Tajik is, most likely, the name of a pre-Islamic tribe.

Tajikistan's National Museum is located in Dushanbe, its capital and largest city. It means which "Monday" in Tajik. The museum was reopened June 2013 after years of renovation. Artifacts displayed in its 22 halls are authentic evidences of the country's rich cultural heritage and ancient history, reaching as far back as the times of Zoroastrian philosophy, 3.500 years ago.
