Where France meets North America

Saint-Pierre and Miquelon are a small group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, south of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is a self-governing territorial overseas collectivity of France situated in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean near Canada.. Saint-Pierre, the smaller island, is the only significantly populated town, and the central area of activity. It is the capital of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. Miquelon is the larger island. It is actually made of three islands connected by drifted sand.

Saint-Pierre and Miquelon are the last vestiges of the colonial empire of New France. It is the only remnant of the former colonial empire of New France that remains under French control.
